Get Answers to Three of the Most Common Issues with Trash Compactors

The fact of the matter is that trash compactors are actually very simple appliances. As a result, there is not a lot that can go wrong with them – but sometimes things do go wrong. At American Appliance Repair we have been providing appliance solutions for more than 30 years and have found that most trash compactor issues are one of the three things.

Keep reading and find out what those three problems are and what you can do about it. If you need or want professional appliance service, contact American Appliance Repair at 800-640-9934 for help.

  1. Your Trash Compactor Will Not Turn On
  2. If this is the issue, we recommend first checking the power cord. Then check to make sure that the electrical supply is working. You can do this by checking to see if you have tripped a circuit breaker, or you can unplug your trash compactor and plug in something else. If that item works fine, then you know the issue is with the trash compactor and not with the electric supply. Another common cause of it not coming on at all is an issue with the drawer latch. This latch is designed to prevent the power from turning on if it the trash compactor is not fully turned off. Make sure your latch is entirely closed and try to run it again.
  3. Your Trash Compactor Is Not Smashing Trash
  4. The most common reason that your trash compactor may not be smashing as well as it once did has to do with the drive belt. If it is old and worn out, then it may need to be tightened or replaced entirely. Second, it could be an issue with the motor, which can also. These are both issues that should be handled by the professionals.
  5. The Door or Drawer of Your Trash Compactor Will Not Open
  6. There are a number of factors that could be causing this issue. It could be that something that is moving the drawer along is dirt or damaged. This potentially includes tracks, wheels, guides, and rollers. We can take a look and determine if they need to be replaced or if a deep cleaning will be enough.
